We do have some Black Widows. My friend found one in his garage tonight, it's the first one that i've seen in person (that I recall.)
I'd love to avoid the experience of being bit by one of those!
What spiders lurk in your area?

I don't care about spiders, it's the crickets that haunt my room.

Black Widows, Brown Recluses, Garden Spiders, etc.

Black widows (L. hesperus), I believe 4 different species of brown recluse are found within a short driving distance from San Angelo, tarantulas, and all the other spiders not worth mentioning.
I wasn't aware Black Widows were in Hawaii; it doesn't surprise me though. Probably an introduced species.

My garage and fireplace are completely infested with hundreds of them. Every once in awhile to clean out my fireplace, I take a bottle of aerosol air freshener and a match, and burn the fuckers.

Brown Recluses. We've got snakes galore in Florida though. Cottonmouths and Water Moccasins are all over the interior and in most of the vegetated areas.

Ughh. We have brown recluses, black widows, and, well, just about every other type of average spider. We also have rattlesnakes and garden snakes.

Ewww, spiders. There was one in my room the other night annoying me. So I squashed him.
No, I don't know or care what species it was.

We have about six common species of snake, but the only poisonous one lives in the southern forests. I don't know much about our spiders, but they seem pretty mild as well.

We have Brown Recluses, along with a bunch of other types I can't identify. They kill moths, so I leave them alone as long as they're not in my house.

According to the searches I'm doing right now we don't have brown recluses. But we do have a small light brown spider with what looks like a white hourglass on it that I'm having a hard time identifying.

I don't know why, but I take great pleasure in stomping on ants when I see them crossing the road.

Here's a list of the different Brown Recluses and their ranges, just in case you're curious as to what kind's native to where you live. Odds are you've got more than one species nearby.
NOTE: All recluses listed are of the Loxosceles genus.
Brown Recluse (Loxosceles reclusa)
Maine to Northern Florida, west to southern California. Main range is southern/central Texas, north to Nebraska and east to Tennessee.
Chilean Recluse (L. laeta)
Introduced species. Found sporadically; one case in Massachusetts and another in LA. Fairly common in southern California now. Spreading rapidly throughout the world.
Desert Recluse (L. deserta)
Southern to central California, southern Nevada, southern Utah, and western and southern Arizona.
Texas Recluse (L. devia)
Abundant in southern Texas.
Arizona Recluse (L. arizonica)
Central and southern California, and has been caught in southern California near the Nevada border.
Apache Recluse (L. apachea)
Southwestern Arizona, southern New Mexico, and western Texas.
Big Bend Recluse (L. blanda)
Western Texas and southeastern New Mexico. Most specimens were found in caves.
Tucson Recluse (L. sabina)
Tucson, Arizona area.
Russell Recluse (L. russelli)
The Death Valley area, southern California. All known specimens collected in a mine shaft.
Baja Recluse (L. palma)
The palm canyons of southern California and the Baja area.
Martha Recluse (L. martha)
Whitewater Canyon and the Palm Springs, California area.
Grand Canyon Recluse (L. kaiba)
So far it is only found in the Grand Canyon.
Mediterranean Recluse (L. rufescens)
Introduced species. Is found in parts of Texas, Colorado, Utah, and California. Has spread around the world. Venom is thought to be much less toxic than in other species.

That's interesting. Except for a few isolated incidents, I was usually too fascinated by ants to take much interest or pleasure in harming them.

We have brown recluses...and just plain old garden spiders.
As for snakes, we have copperheads (motherfuckers), which my grandmother always tried to run over when she saw one before she moved, rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, and a few others.

Not that we don't have all of the above, as well. But still.
Last summer at Clearlake, Rob and I were flipping over a rowboat to see if we could use it, and there was the HUGEST black widow spider you've ever seen. I freaked out so badly.
My fear of spiders stems from when I was 10, and I saw the movie Arachnaphobia, then a documentary on black widow spiders in California directly after. I was traumatized.

This is a poecilotheria metallica (not mine; I can't afford one):

Forgive the copyright; I just did a google images search to find a picture. I'm feeling lazy.
If you manage to find someone selling one of these, the pricetag for a 1 inch baby is about $250. I have no idea what a 9 inch adult is worth. Definitely into the thousands, for sure.
I do have one of these (poecilotheria regalis):

This isn't my spider, but mine's about 9 inches long and worth about $250.

Crocodilians, I can handle. I got plenty of sharp/heavy things in my room. But spiders are agile.

I hate that fucking movie. Watched it with a friend a few times when I was six. Oh, and that one scene in Something Wicked This Way comes. *shudder*
Although, I will defend tarantulas in a sense that they are not nearly as dangerous as commonly believed. I wouldn't want one anywhere fucking near me, but I'll give them that.
